ABOUT RISTA

Get Involved with RISTA!

As a member-led organization, the Rhode Island Science Teachers Association thrives because of YOU. This year, we’re excited to restructure our leadership and expand opportunities for members to get involved through both board positions and standing committees.

Board Elections
Do you (or a colleague) have a passion for advancing science education, fresh ideas to share, and a desire to collaborate with educators across Rhode Island? If so, consider running for a RISTA leadership role! Together, we build strong professional networks and provide high-quality professional learning for science educators statewide.

This fall, we are electing:

  • President-Elect (must be a RISTA member for 2 years; 3-year leadership commitment in the presidential chain)

  • Treasurer-Elect (1-year RISTA membership required; transitions to Treasurer July 2026 for 1 year term)

  • Secretary-Elect (1-year RISTA membership required; transitions to Secretary July 2026 for 1 year term)

  • Secondary (grades 6-12) Representative (3-year term, joining Elementary & Higher-Ed Representatives in staggered terms)

All board members participate in monthly evening (mostly virtual) meetings, help lead a standing committee, attend the annual conference, and support RISTA initiatives.

Serving on the RISTA Board is a rewarding opportunity to gain leadership experience, collaborate with colleagues from across Rhode Island, grow as a teacher leader, and expand your professional network.

The Nomination Form is open through October 24, 2025. Candidates may self nominate.

RISTA Elections will be conducted electronically, opening on November 4th and closing on November 8th.  New officers will join the board in December.

Volunteer for a Standing Committee
Not ready for a board role? You can still make an impact by serving on a standing committee! Committees vary in size and time commitment but offer a meaningful way to shape RISTA’s work while building leadership experience.

  • Communications & Membership Committee: Supports outreach, engagement, and visibility.

  • Finance Committee: Advises on budget, cost-saving, and membership models.

  • Professional Development Committee: Plans high-quality PD opportunities for members.

  • Conference Committee: Organizes the annual RISTA Conference.

  • Elections Committee: Ensures a fair and transparent board election process.

We look forward to working alongside you to grow RISTA and strengthen science education in Rhode Island!
